Valtteri Bottas, Mercedes, tog pole position, foran sin teamkammerat Lewis Hamilton, selv om Bottas kørte en tur som græsslåmaskine på sidste omgang. Hamilton får en straf på tre placeringer, så Max Verstappen, Red Bull, flytter op ved siden af Bottas. Bag dem starter Lando Norris, McLaren, og Alexander Albon, Red Bull.
Grosjean kom lige med i Q2, mens Magnussen måtte nøjes med den lidt kedelige 16. plads - men mon ikke Magnussen viser en af sine gode starter søndag.
