Hill Climb 14/08/11

Danmarks smukkeste motorløb, Munkebjerg Hillclimb, er en del af Vild med vand i Vejle, og vand var der rigeligt af, da kørerne hele søndagen lang lukkede op for hestekræfterne i deres gamle biler i perioden fra 1925 til 1986. |
Nogle fik da også kontant afregning, da de røg i grøften på den glatte bjergvej fra Vejle Fjord op til Munkebjerg Hotel. Så da borgmester Arne Sigtenbjerggaard efter løbet trykkede vinderne på næven, var det ikke overraskende de allermest garvede, der ryddede præmiebordet.

Hurtigst af alle var rallykøreren Jan Sørensen fra Hammel i en Opel Manta 400 fra 1983. Han vandt med 1½ sekund foran århusianeren Vincenzo Santangelo i en Fiat X1/9 Dallara Abarth ligeledes fra 1983. På tredjepladsen kom den tidligere rallykører Mikael Mikkelsen fra Viborg i en Volvo PV 544 Sport fra 1964.

I historisk motorsport gælder det dog ikke kun om at vinde, men også om at hædre bilens historie, og det gjorde en række kørere med uerstattelige førkrigsbiler som Bugatti, Alvis Supersports, MG TA, Ford A med flere. De var langt efter løbets moderne biler, men deres indsats var ikke mindre heroisk på de glatte veje.

Det var trettende gang, at Historisk Motor Sport Danmark afviklede Munkebjerg Hillclimb. Med 100 biler var deltagerlistens maksimum nået, og løbet er da også en populær del af Vejle Kommunes Vild med Vand koncept - også selv om der denne gang var mere vand på bjerget, end de fleste kunne ønske.
