 Fredagens kvalifikation for Grand Am deltagerne på Daytona International Raceway i Florida blev vundet af SunTrust Racing, her kørte Ricky Taylor tiden 1:42,341 i teamets Ford Dallara, den tid var 0,113 sekund hurtigere end Jon Fogarty kunne præsterer i Gainsco/Bob Stallings Racing's Chevrolet Riley på 2. pladsen.
De 11 deltagende Daytona Prototype racere tog sig af de 11 første pladser i det 28 biler store felt.

| I GT klassen skulle man åbenbart have en Mazda RX-8 hvis man ville være med helt oppe foran, og dette mærke besatte de tre første pladser, med Sylvain Tremblay fra SpeedSource teamet som den hurtigste af dem.
Jan Magnussen's teamkollega hos Stevenson Motorsports, Gunther Schaldach, placerede deres Chevrolet Camaro GT.R #97 på 10. pladsen i klassen, samt på 21. pladsen i den samlede stilling.
